The stories of all serial killers have the power to shock, but the tale of Andrei Chikatilo is particularly harrowing. During his lifetime he sexually assaulted, murdered and ate the flesh of at least 53 people, mostly women and children of both sexes. The reasons why his mind was twisted into such a grotesque shape can perhaps be found in the unique horrors of wartime Ukraine. He was executed on February 14, 1994 by a gunshot to the back of the head.
